Bio

As our elder clinician (well, he IS the oldest one here!) Steve brings 6 decades of life experience to bear in conjunction with his intensive DBT training.  Steve is an amazing force in our field. With persistence, he convinced the court systems in North Georgia to eliminate incarceration recidivism through DBT! In addition to his Stage 1 Skills training Steve has also completed intensives in DBT-PE and EDS (DBT for eating disorders), and has deep experience working with substance abuse patients.

He is also a former financial analyst (Steve is also able to teach financial skills management)and professional pastry chef, and somehow those years of experience helped prepare him for his ultimate calling in DBT.

Being an accomplished baker (a "retired" pastry chef) and a former restauranteur, along with being an avid guitarist, Steve incorporates baked goods and music therapy into his treatment modality when called for. (In our opinion, his baked goods are always called for!)

Steve also loves to ride his motorcycle around the North Georgia mountains; this led to his now-famous concept of “you go where you look!” that is a cornerstone of his Patterns module for our Stage III/IV program.

It has been said that Steve’s greatest gift is the ability to apply his intellect with compassion and kindness, in order to help his patients gain new insight to themselves. His favorite Stage I modules are the Core Skills and Emotional Regulation.

Steve is the inspiration behind writing Stages III & IV, and is also the proud new owner of three grandchildren--one brand new.

Steve lives in hip ‘n happenin’ Elljay Georgia, a small town about an hour north of Atlanta with his wife Saber, and runs the North Georgia  office of Atlanta DBT there. For fun he plays the guitar, rides his motorcycle and drives the “go-kart”, a souped up little Miata he got recently.  He’s just super awesome in general!
