DSM-5 Field Trails
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is in the process of being revised by the American Psychiatric Association to relect new information about the conceptualization and diagnoses of mental disorders. The first edition of the DSM was published in 1952, and the most recent revision (DSM-IV-TR) was in 2000. The fifth edition will be released in May 2013.
Atlanta DBT is proud to announce that we have been selected as Collaborative Investigator in the field trials for the new edition. The trails aim to test the feasibility, clinical utility, reliability, and, where possible, the validity of the draft criteria for mental disorders being suggested for inclusion in the new edition of the DSM.
Patients in our practice can volunteer to be a part of these trials. Patients who consent to be a part of the trails will simply fill out two electronic forms at the end of routine therapy sessions. There is no cost for participation, but this is an exciting opportunity for our patients to be a part of these advances in the field of psychology.
